The Early Eighteenth Dynasty Ahmose, who reigned c. 1550 to 1525 B.C.E., was only a child when he became king, so his mother Ahhotep served as regent during the early years of his reign. She not only exercised power during his minority, but she remained an important figure even after Ahmose assumed control. A stele that Ahmose erected at Karnak credits her with military exploits-looking after the soldiers, bringing back fugitives, pacifying Upper Egypt, and expelling rebels. We do not know, however, whether this activity occurred while she was regent or later while Ahmose was engaged in military activity elsewhere.
