Navarrese history was marked by struggles and alliances with both the Muslims and the other Christian kingdoms, as well as by problems of dynastic succession which led, finally, to the union with Aragon and to domination by French dynasties. The written sources give little information on the military organization, mostly because there are no Navarrese chronicles for the period of the Early and High Middle Ages. Nonetheless the artistic iconography shows, for instance, the weaponry and even the way it was used. Armament, as well as other military aspects, followed the trends of the rest of Europe of the time.
