Lotfi Aliasker Zadeh (English: Lotfi A. Zadeh; Azerbaijani: Lütfi Rəhim oğlu Ələsgərzadə; Persian: لطفی علیعسکرزاده / Loṭfī ʿAlī-ʿAskar-Zāde; b. 4 February 1921, Baku; d. 6 September 2017, California) was an Azerbaijani-citizen mathematician and scientist who laid the foundation of the theory of fuzzy logic in computer science. He served as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds the title of emeritus (honorary) professor.
He was one of the founding members of the Eurasia Academy. He died on 4 September 2017 at the age of 96. He was buried in the Alley of Honor cemetery in Baku.
Life
His father was Rahim Aliaskerzade, an Iranian of Azeri origin, and his mother was Fania Koriman Aliaskerzade, a Russian pediatrician of Jewish origin.
