Abu'l-Khayr Khan (1412–1468) was a steppe ruler descended from Genghis Khan who unified the nomadic Uzbeks. He established a broad dominion over the steppes of Western Siberia and the Dasht-i Qipchaq.
In his time, the departure and eastward migration of some Uzbek tribes prepared the ground for the birth of the Kazakh Khanate. In this respect Abu'l-Khayr Khan is an important figure standing at the crossroads of both Uzbek and Kazakh history. His grandson Muhammad Shaybani would found the Shaybanid Khanate.
