Ebu Bekir Muhammed bin Tayyib el-Bakıllānī (Arabic: ابو بكر محمد بن الطيب الباقلانی; c. 950 - 5 June 1013), better known as al-Baqillani, was an Arab scholar of theology, fiqh, logic, and hadith who defended and strengthened the Ash'ari school of belief throughout his life.
A successful orator, al-Baqillani was greatly respected by his contemporaries for his expertise in debating theological and legal matters. Al-Dhahabi praised him as "the learned imam, the incomparable master, the foremost of scholars, the author of many books, the model of clarity and intelligence."
