Abu Dawud Süleyman ibn el-Eş'as el-Ezedi es-Sicistani, or by his known name Abu Dawud al-Sijistani (Arabic: أبو داود سليمان بن الأشعث الأزدي السجستاني) (b. 817, Sistan - d. 21 February 889, Basra), was a Persian hadith scholar (muhaddith) of Arab descent. He was the author of the work known as Sunan Abu Dawud, one of the Kutub al-Sittah (Six Books).
He was born in Sistan, a city of the Khorasan region located today between Iran and Afghanistan. He began his education there. From the age of eighteen, with the aim of acquiring knowledge, he stayed in Baghdad, Basra, Mecca, Kufa, Homs, Balkh, Damascus, and many other cities. Ibn Hajar relates that Abu Dawud took lessons from about 300 teachers. He died on 21 February 889 in Basra.
