Sparethra was the queen of the Amyrgian Sakas, one of the Saka (Scythian) tribes living in the Central Asian steppes in the 6th century BCE. When her husband, King Amorges, was taken captive by the Persian king Cyrus II, she assumed rule.
According to ancient sources (Ctesias), she raised a great army and led a campaign against the Persians, and with the victory she won she freed her husband from captivity. Together with Tomyris, she is remembered as one of the ancient examples of the tradition of the female ruler and warrior in steppe culture.
