Abulfaz Elchibey (1938–2000) was an Azerbaijani historian and politician; he was the first President of Azerbaijan to be elected by popular vote after independence (1992–1993).
As the leader of the Azerbaijani Popular Front, he was among the prominent figures in the post-Soviet independence process and in the defense of the idea of Turkic-world unity.
