Haydar Aliyev

Heydar Aliyev (1923–2003) was an Azerbaijani statesman; he served as President of Azerbaijan from 1993 to 2003.

He was influential in the institutionalization of the modern Azerbaijani state and in the development of energy resources (the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline). He is among the symbolic figures of the "one nation, two states" understanding with Turkey.
