Rishtan (Rishton) ceramics is a traditional art of tilework and pottery that has been carried on for centuries in the town of Rishtan in the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan. Produced from the region's red clay soil and the natural "ishkor" glaze, the pieces are known for their turquoise-blue and green tones.
The masters adorn plates, bowls, and pitchers with hand-drawn plant, pomegranate, and geometric motifs. Rishtan is one of the most deeply rooted ceramic centers of Central Asia; the traditional craft knowledge is passed from generation to generation through the master–apprentice relationship, and it has been recognized by UNESCO as living heritage.
