This chapter reflects on the importance that local studies have played in expanding understandings of the suffrage movement over the past thirty years. Many of the earliest scholarly accounts of British suffrage focused on the work of the leaders of various organisations who were based in London. Collating the findings of a number of local studies from across Britain we see that the movement could look very different outside of the capital both in its composition and in its ideology.
