Sultan Ala al-Din Kayqubad I presided over the most brilliant period of the Anatolian Seljuks.

He conquered the port of Alanya (Alaiye) and opened trade with the Crimea by way of Sinop; he also took the regions of Erzincan and Erzurum. The caravanserai network expanded, and great madrasas and palaces were built in Konya, Sivas and Kayseri. The Great Mosque of Divriği is the masterpiece of this period.
