Bayezid I's Unification of the Anatolian Beyliks

1390 CE · Anadolu · military

Bayezid I annexed the beyliks (principalities) of western Anatolia (the Aydınoğulları, Saruhanoğulları, Menteşeoğulları and Germiyan), securing Ottoman territorial unity.

In 1397 the Karamanids too were brought largely under control. This policy of unification gathered the Anatolian Turkish world under a single roof, yet all of it was reversed by the defeat at the hands of Timur.
