Orhan, the son of Osman Bey, conquered Bursa in 1326 and made it the Ottoman capital.

İznik (1331) and İzmit (1337) followed. Under Orhan the beylik took a great step toward the identity of a state through a regular army (the yaya and müsellem units), the minting of the first silver akçe, and the creation of administrative units.
