King Ateas (Atteas) briefly united the extensive Scythian lands stretching as far as the Danube; he had coins struck and traded with the Greek colonies.

In 339 BCE he died at the age of ninety in battle against Philip II. Thereafter the Scythian confederation weakened and Sarmatian pressure began to increase.
