With the conquest of Bukhara by the Kara-Khanid khan Nasr Khan, the Persian Samanid dynasty came to an end; Transoxiana passed under Turkic rule.

The Persian cultural tradition continued, but political authority passed permanently into Turkic hands. The Ghaznavids took Khurasan in the south; Central Asia entered its "Turkic age."
