Zabergan's Last Great Kutrigur Raid on Byzantium

558 CE · Konstantinopolis yakını · military

The Kutrigur khan Zabergan crossed the Danube with 7,000 men, swept through Thrace and reached the walls of Constantinople — he even broke through the Anastasian Wall.

The aged general Belisarius appeared on the stage for the last time and drove the Kutrigurs back in Thrace. Zabergan withdrew. Shortly afterwards the Avars swallowed up the Kutrigurs; this raid on Byzantium was the Kutrigurs' last great action.
