Timur's Conquest of Baghdad

In 1393 Timur marched on Baghdad, drove out the Jalayirid Sultan Ahmad and brought Iraq under his rule.

This conquest led such powers as the Ottomans, the Mamluks and Kadı Burhaneddin to seek an alliance against Timur. Baghdad was subsequently taken a second time in 1401 and suffered heavy destruction. (Source: TDV İslam Ansiklopedisi; Türkosfer)
