Tabgach/Tuoba Gui (Emperor Daowu) founded the Northern Wei, and in 439 CE unified the whole of northern China.

Tabgach — the name used for China in the Göktürk inscriptions and in Turkic texts — derives from this dynasty. It was the period in which Buddhism was patronised almost as a state religion and immense rock-cut temple complexes were built.
