699 CE · Yedisu (Kazakistan) · political

Founded in Zhetysu after the Western Göktürks, the Türgesh Khaganate offered strong resistance to Umayyad expansion.

Su-lu Khagan, known by the epithet "Kılıç Han", defeated the Umayyads repeatedly between 724 and 738 and defended the Sogdian cities of Transoxiana. Su-lu's death (738) and internal conflicts weakened the khaganate.
