Cuman-Kipchak Confederation (1000 CE – 1241 CE)

A great Turkic confederation extending from the Pontic steppe into Central Asia.

It both fought and allied with Byzantium, Russia and Hungary, and was known for its powerful nomadic cavalry armies. Most of it was broken up by the Mongol invasion of 1241, while some groups took refuge in Hungary and Bulgaria.
